Why Colorbond?

Colorbond is a registered Trademark of BlueScope steel and is sometimes misspelt as Colourbond. Made from hi tensile steel, coated with aluminum and zinc (Zincalume), then coated with several coats of color finishes. Colorbond is lighter than Tiles and provides no on going maintenance.

Are tiles hotter than Colorbond / zincalume??

Yes, tests done have shown that a zincalume roof is significantly cooler than a red tiled roof, in both insulated and uninsulated cases.

Should Tiles be painted / sealed?

Yes and No. It will certainly look better and seal the roof but will not change the integrity of the tile, in other words it a cheaper alternative to a roof tiles in reasonable condition. On a poor quality roof it is a waste of money. More importantly a roof should be rebedded and pointed using flexible pointing.

What is flexible pointing?

Pointing is the material that seals the ridge caps to your tiles. These days flexible pointing is used in place of conventional pointing. The older and standard pointing is just Mortar that cracks and minor leaks appear in your ceiling. The option of pointing the roof is the first major step and may be all that is required to a roof in reasonable condition.
